Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Takes Care Of Augustana Posted: Friday, April 4, 2008 ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won its ninth straight meet, taking down Augustana College (Ill.) 6-3 here today. The Blugolds improve to 20-3 with the win while Augustana drops to 15-5 on the season. Eau Claire had to work hard to earn its victories today, as the team only won two matches singles matches in straight sets. The five other singles matches were decided with a third set. Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) were the only Blugolds to win in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Loprinzi won with scores of 6-1, 6-2 over Andy McCarter, while Brandner defeated Kyle Doyle 6-2, 6-1. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century), Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) were the other Blugolds to win in singles play, but each needed a third set to take home the victory. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) also played a match with an extra set, but came up short in the end at No. 2 singles, falling to Chris Mullin. Lars Olson and Fawcett were the only Blugolds to see victories in doubles play today. They won in the No. 2 spot over Rafael Romero and McCarter by a score of 8-5. Lantz and Loprinzi played close at No. 1 but fell 9-7, while Rose and Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) also came up short 8-5 in the No. 3 spot. The Blugolds will play at two different locations Saturday. Half the team will play St. Ambrose at Rock Island, Ill. while the remainder of the team will be in Mequon to take on Concordia and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
