Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Takes Third Straight Posted: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated UW-River Falls 8-1 to make it three straight conference wins going into the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Katie Kuzma (Jr.-Buffalo, MN) improved to 8-6 with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win at one singles. Sarah Riordan (Fr.-Appleton/North) won her opening set before dropping the second. After going to a third set tiebreaker, Riordan pulled away winning the tiebreaker 7-5 to improve to 6-5 at two singles. Kristie Carlson (Fr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View), Molly Hunt (So.-Owatonna, MN) and Alli Taplin (So.-Dayton, MN/Champlin Park) all won in straight sets in singles action. Kuzma and Laura Geissler (So.-Coon Rapids, MN) led the three doubles teams to wins with an 8-5 win at one doubles. Riordan and Hunt remained undefeated as a tandem moving to 4-0 with an 8-2 win while Lee and Carlson improved to 3-0 with an 8-6 win at three singles. The win improves Eau Claire to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference dual meets while River Falls drops to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC. The Blugolds will conclude the fall season when they compete in the WIAC Championships October 23-24. Singles No. 1 - Katie Kuzma (EC) def. Megan Knobloch (RF) 6-2, 6-0. No. 5 - Molly Hunt (EC) def. Becky Breise (RF) 6-4, 6-4. No. 6 - Alli Taplin (EC) def. Sarah Vandenbook (RF) 6-3, 6-2. Doubles No. 1 - Kuzma/Geissler (EC) def. Knobloch/Baron (RF) 8-5.
