Men's Tennis Splits A Pair Of Dual Meets

DECORAH, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team played in two meets today, dropping the first to Luther College 8-1 and winning the second 9-0 against Loras College.
The Blugolds are now 7-2 on the season, winning two out of three meets this weekend. Luther's win over Eau Claire kept them undefeated, with a 4-0 record. Loras fell to 0-3 with the loss to the Blugolds.
Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) was the only Blugold to have a perfect weekend in singles play. Playing at No. 5 singles against Luther and No. 3 singles against Loras, Lars Olson won with scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) had a close match against Luther, losing in the super-tiebreaker with scores of 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 in the No. 3 spot. On the singles side against Loras, all Eau Claire players won in straight sets. Brett Burleigh (Fr.-Verona, Wis.) did not give up a point at No. 6 singles against Loras, winning 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Eau Claire swept Loras but could not get a win against Luther, although two matches were close. At No. 1 doubles against Luther, Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) and Loprinzi lost by a score of 8-6. In the No. 2 spot against Luther, Lars Olson and Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) lost narrowly by a score of 9-8.
Next week the Blugolds will be back at home for three meets. They will take on St. Norbert College on Friday at 6 p.m. and follow that with a meet against Lawrence University at 8 a.m. on Saturday and one more against Bethel University at 4 p.m. that afternoon.
