EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team fell 44-6 to No. 7 UW-Stevens Point in the regular season finale in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center this afternoon.

The Blugolds end the regular season with a .500 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet record, going 3-3 on the season. Stevens Point, who is ranked seventh in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association top 30 poll, ends its season with a 5-1 WIAC record, falling only to UW-La Crosse. La Crosse was undefeated in conference play this season.

The only points the Blugolds earned today came on a forfeit at 149 pounds. Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS), who has won eight of his last 10 matches, picked up the win by forfeit. He is now 22-11 this season at 149 pounds.

Three other matches were decided by four points or less. Wrestling at heavyweight, Nick Hoeft (Sr.-Merrill, Wis.) kept it close but in the end lost 4-2 to Chad Gregory. At 133, Andy Miller (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) also had a close match and had tied it up 4-4 after two periods, but Stevens Point's Jered Kern scored three points in the final period to take a 7-4 decision. Jon Ames (So.-Genoa, WI/Viroqua), who wrestled at 157 pounds, also kept it close throughout the match but eventually fell 9-5.

Stevens Point's other points of the meet came on a technical fall victory at 141 pounds, a forfeit at 174 pounds and four pins.

The Blugolds will next travel to Appleton, Wisconsin for the WIAC Championship. The meet is hosted by Lawrence University next Sunday and will start at 10 a.m.
