Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Takes Down Cornell College Posted: Friday, February 15, 2008 DECORAH, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won its fifth meet in a row, defeating Cornell College 9-0 here tonight. The Blugolds are now 6-1 on the season and have not lost a meet to an NCAA Division III opponent yet this season. Their only loss was at the hands of Division II St. Cloud State two weeks ago. Cornell remains without a win this season with a 0-3 overall record. In singles play, all matches were won in straight sets. As a team, the Blugolds gave up only eight points on the singles side the entire night. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) and Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) both had 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. At No. 2, Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) gave up the most points but still won 6-3, 6-1. Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who remains undefeated this season, got a victory playing at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Playing in only his third match in the No. 6 spot this season, Brett Gressick (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) picked up his second victory of the season, winning 6-1, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Lantz and Loprinzi picked up their fifth win of the season with an 8-4 victory over their Cornell opponents and are now 5-1 this season. C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) and Eric Wollum (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) also won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and remain undefeated with a 4-0 record this season. Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, MN) and Mike Olson (Fr.-Ham Lake, MN/Blaine), who played their first doubles match together this season in the No. 3 spot tonight, won by a score of 8-2. Tomorrow the Blugolds will be back in action in Decorah, Iowa. They will face Luther College at 8:30 a.m. followed by a meet at 11 a.m. against Loras College.
