Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Blugolds Win Meet In Final Match Posted: Wednesday, February 6, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - On Wednesday night, the UW - Eau Claire wrestling team topped St. Olaf College (Minn.) 23-22. The meet was decided in the final match of the night when heavy weight Nick Hoeft (Sr. -Merrill, WI) won a major decision over Justin Luthey. The Blugolds' win puts the team just above five-hundred with an overall record of 12-11 and a dual meet record of 6-5. The meet had a total of four forfeits between the two teams. Both teams forfeited two matches apiece. Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Tech HS) recorded the first Blugold win. Johnston was one of three Blugold wrestlers to win tonight. His victory came as a result of a 5-1 decision. The match appeared to be slipping away from the Blugolds until Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) and Hoeft stepped on to the mat. At the start of Holforty's match the Blugolds were down 22-15, but by the end of his impressive major decision at the 197 lb weight class the Blugolds would only trail by three. Down three, Blugold heavy weight Hoeft came up big for his team with a major decision. Hoeft's major decision won the match for the Blugolds 23-22. The Blugolds will take to the mat again on Saturday when they host UW - Whitewater. This conference dual meet is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at McPhee Physical Education Center.
