MENOMONIE, Wis. - The UW - Eau Claire men's track and field team traveled to Menomonie today to compete in the Warren Bowlus Open.
The team had many good performances turned in by individuals, and by the end of the competition the Blugolds would finish with two first place finishes and five second place finishes.
Frankie Adams (Jr.-Burnsville, MN) was responsible for the only Blugold first place finish in the track competitions. Adams finished first in the finals of the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.53 seconds. Finishing right behind Adams was Zach Lee (Fr.-Ladysmith, WI). Lee came in at 6.56 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Kirk Schmidt (So.-Athens, WI) placed second with a time of 23.20 seconds. Tony Carr (Jr.-Menomonie, WI) was the other Eau Claire track representative to finish second in an event. Carr's second place finish came in the 800-meter run. His time was 1:56.61.
On the field side of the competition, Sam Johnson (Jr.-Deer Park, WI/Amery) took first in the weight throw. Johnson's first place finish was the result of his toss of 17.29 meters. The closest competitor to Johnson was Stouts' Sean Larson with a throw of 16.49 meters. Johnson's throw also was good enough for a national provisional qualification at Division III Indoor Championships.
