Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Blanks Northwestern In Season Opener Posted: Thursday, January 31, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Competing in its first dual meet of the season, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won 9-0 over Northwestern College (Minn.) at the Ade Olson Indoor Tennis Courts today. While the meet was the first of the season for the Blugolds, the loss drops Northwestern's season record to 0-2. Northwestern also lost 9-0 to Concordia-Moorhead last Saturday. The Blugolds easily won all of their singles matches this evening in straight sets. The closest match was at No.6 singles. Brett Gressick (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) won but allowed Northwestern's Josh Fread to score six points. Gressick ended up winning 6-2, 6-4. Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) took a 6-2, 6-0 victory over John Barnes at No. 1 singles while Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) also won 6-1, 6-1 over Jordan Isaacson at No. 2 singles. Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) was victorious at No. 3 singles, defeating Stephen Fread 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) did not allow a point in the first match and won 6-0, 6-3 against Jeremiah Scneck. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) also had a victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Noah Persson 6-1, 6-0. In doubles play, all Eau Claire teams took victories. Fawcett and Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.), who played at No. 1 doubles, C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) and Eric Wollum (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who played at No. 2 doubles, and Chris Thornton (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) and Brett Burleigh (Fr.-Verona, Wis.), who played at No. 3 doubles, all won 8-1 over their opponents. Next up the Blugolds will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for three dual meets. They will take on St. Cloud State at 2 p.m. and Concordia-Moorhead at 8 p.m. on Friday and will also face St. Scholastica on Saturday at 10 a.m. Eau Claire 9, Northwestern 0 Singles Doubles - KM - |
