STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Last night the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team gave up three even strength goals in a 3-1 loss to UW-Stevens Point. Today special teams play hurt the Blugolds as the Blugold penalty kill unit gave up three power play goals in their second 3-1 loss in as many games.
The Pointers took the early lead for the second game in a row on a Nicole Grossmann power play goal at 12:46 of the first. Down 1-0, the Blugolds' Magan Wurdelman (So.-Sauk Rapids, MN/Sauk Rapids-Rice) beat Pointers' goalie Ann Hulme to even the score at one apiece at 15:34 of the first period. The goal was Wurdelman's first of the season.
With the score tied at one apiece, Dana Carothers gave the Pointers the lead for good when she tallied the only goal of the second period. Carother's goal was the Pointers' second power play goal of the night.
In the third period, Michelle Sosnowski added another Pointer power play goal to the board to give the Pointers the 3-1 lead at 7:35 of the third. From there the Pointers went on to protect the lead and improved their record to 13-0-1.
