Posted: Tuesday, October 5, 2004
RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team allowed four first-half goals in a 4-1 loss to UW-River Falls here today at Ramer Field.
The Blugolds fall to 5-6-0 for the season and 1-2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play while the Falcons improve to 9-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in WIAC action. The Blugolds' loss to River Falls ends a five-match win streak against the Falcons, dating back to October 13, 1999.
The Falcons got the scoring started early when Emily Rodgers scored a goal at the 3:08 mark of the first half. The Blugolds responded less than three minutes later, when Becky Sitter (Fr.-Waupaca) took a pass from Emily Meisinger (So.-Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy) and scored Eau Claire's lone goal of the night to tie the game 1-1.
Ashley Peterson scored the eventual game-winning goal for River Falls at the 7:50 mark and the Falcons added two more goals before halftime to make the score 4-1.
Neither team was able to score a goal in the second half despite the Blugolds out-shooting the Falcons 9-2. Eau Claire finished with 19 shots on the match to the Falcons' 11. The Blugolds tallied all eight of their corner kick opportunities in the second half.
Eau Claire will next be in action this Friday when they travel to La Crosse to battle the Eagles. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
