Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Improves To 5-2 On The Season Posted: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 WINONA, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team won its fourth straight game on Tuesday night when they defeated St. Mary's University 3-1. The Blugolds took control of the game early scoring three first period goals. The scoring action started at 1:11 of the first period when Christine Dickinson (Fr.-Layton, UT/Shattuck St. Mary's) scored her, team leading, third goal of the season. The next Blugold goal came at 11:56 of the first period as Christine Knop (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) and Michelle Stohr (So.-South St. Paul, MN) set up Kristin Faber (Fr.-Austin, MN) for her second goal of the season. The first period scoring assault ended when Stohr scored on the power play at 18:13. After the first period St. Mary's decided to make a switch in the net, however, the damage had already been done. The three goals scored in the first period would prove to be all the Blugolds would need as they held St. Mary's scoreless until the 12:48 mark of the third period. At that point, St. Mary's Katie Cachey beat Lindsay Savat (Fr.-Apple Valley, MN/Thomas Jefferson) to close the gap to two goals. However that would be the only goal Savat would give up all night as the Blugolds cruised to a 3-1 victory in the remaining minutes of the third period. The third period goal Savat gave up was the first goal she had allowed this season. Prior to that goal Savat had gone 112 minutes and 48 seconds without allowing a goal. On the season, Savat is 2-0 with a save percentage of .974 and goal against average of .50. The Blugolds turned in a great performance on special teams killing all eight St. Mary's power play opportunities and going one for two on the power play. The Blugolds will now have some time to rest up and get ready for a tough conference schedule with ten days between tonight's game and their next game. Their next game will be played on Friday, November 30 at Hobbs Ice arena when they host Adrian College (Mich.). The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. Eau Claire-St. Mary's Minn. Box Score- TT - |
