LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team took third of five teams, while the men took fourth of six at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Relays in La Crosse today.

The women scored 102 points in the third place finish. La Crosse won with a score of 174, while Stevens Point scored 138 for the second place finish. Whitewater took fourth with 72 and Oshkosh was last with 48 points.

On the men's side, the Pointers scored 158 points for a first place finish, La Crosse took second with 124 points, and Whitewater scored 94 for a third place finish. Eau Claire finished with 92 points in the fourth place finish, Oshkosh finished fifth with 66 points and River Falls was last with 14.

In similar fashion to last year's conference relays, the Pointers and Eagles finished first or second in the majority of the events, while the Blugolds finished third.

The lone event the Blugolds took first place in at the relays was men's one meter diving. Eau Claire finished with a score of 232.00 in the event, while taking a third place finish in the three meter event, scoring 193.55.

The men were also able to grab a second place finish in the 1500 yard freestyle relay. Ben Macalalad (Fr.-Wausau, WI/West), Patrick Finley (Jr.-Waunakee, WI) and Nick Mehring (Fr.-Eagan, MN/Eastview) were able to finish with a time of 15:14.41, just under five seconds out of the top spot.

Both the men and women were able to secure third place finishes in 19 other events. The women finished in third in 12 events, while the men finished in third in seven events. Two of the events saw both the men and women missing first place by less than eight seconds.

The women's team of Mari Bodensteiner (So.-Red Wing, MN), Emily Diehl (Sr.-Prairie du Sac, WI/Sauk Prairie), Missy Kleist (So.-Eau Claire, WI/North) and Megan Finley (Fr.-Waunakee, WI) finished the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.40, just over six seconds out of first place.

On the men's side, the 850 yard freestyle relay team of Brett Olsen (So.-New Berlin, WI/West Allis Hale), Finley, Tom Dahl (Fr.-Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) and Macalalad finished just over seven seconds out of first with a time of 8:10.83.

For the last two seasons, both the men and the women have finished the relays in third place.

The Blugolds will have two weeks off now and will be back in action on November 30. Both the men and women will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Falcon Invite, hosted by UW-River Falls.
