Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey On The Road To Face Two Non-Conference Opponents Posted: Wednesday, November 7, 2007 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team after winning two of its first three games of the season, will hit the road to play two non-conference games against Minnesota opponents St. Mary's University and St. Thomas University. The Blugolds, 2-1-0 overall beat St. Scholastica 5-3 in its season opener in Duluth. Eau Claire took on Concordia College in its home opener and lost 2-1 in a game with three power play goals. The Blugolds finished out its home opening weekend with a shutout win over St. John's University 1-0. Eau Claire has been lead by goalie Tyler Brigl (So.- Eagan, MN), who has 84 saves on the season. Brigl has allowed five goals in three games, three of which were short-handed goals. Brigl has a save percentage of .944 and he has two wins under his belt. Offensively, Sean Garrity (Sr.- North St. Paul, MN/North) and Andrew Johnson (Jr.- Andover, MN/Anoka) lead the team with two goals each. Sam Bauler (Jr.- Apple Valley, MN/Eastview), Bryan Plaszcz (So.- Apple Valley, MN) and defensemen Greg Petersen (Jr.- Maple Grove, MN/Totino-Grace) each have a goal for Eau Claire. Dan Fina (Jr.- Fontana, WI/Glenbard South, IL) leads the team with three assists; Jesse Vesel (Jr.- Hibbing, MN) and Petersen have two assists each. Eau Claire will take on St. Mary's University on Friday night in Winona (MN). The Blugolds are 4-11-2 all-time against the Cardinals. Last year the Blugolds beat the Cardinals at Hobbs Ice Center 6-5. St. Mary's is picked to finish seventh in the 2007-08 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll. St. Mary's has started the season 0-1-1. The Cardinals tied UW-Superior 4-4 and lost to St. Scholastica 7-4 in its opening weekend of play on the road. Mike Glaesmer leads the way for St. Mary's with three goals in two games. Adam Gill and Jesse Polk each have a goal and an assist for the Cardinals. Dan Smith has been in the net for the Cardinals, he has 92 saves and 11 allowed goals. On Saturday the Blugolds will travel to St. Paul (MN) to take on St. Thomas University. The Blugolds are 5-13-2 all-time against the Tommies. Eau Claire has not beat St. Thomas since January 8, 2000 when the Blugolds won 6-3 at Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire tied with St. Thomas in 2002 1-1 and 2005 by a score of 5-5. The Tommies have started its season 2-0-0, with two non-conference road wins against UW-Superior 3-0 and St. Scholastica 3-2. St. Thomas was picked to finish second in the MIAC in the 2007-08 Men's Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Tommies received three first place votes. Adam Davis leads the way for St. Thomas with four goals in two games. Nick Pernula has one goal and three assists and John Jacques has two assists for the Tommies. Tyler Chestnut has been in the net for the Tommies, he has 46 saves and two allowed goals on the season. Chestnut's save percentage is .958. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. Friday night when the Blugolds take on the Cardinals and Saturday night when the Blugolds take on the Tommies. - KD - |
