Men's Basketball Roster Set For 2007-2008 Season
Posted: Tuesday, November 6, 2007
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The men who will represent UW-Eau Claire on the hardwood this season have been selected. In his 13th year, Head Coach Terry Gibbon's team is made-up of four seniors, three juniors, five sophomores, and six freshmen.
The team will be lead by senior captains Zack Ryan (Sr.-Lake Elmo, MN/Tartan) and Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha, WI/Catholic Memorial). Beyer led the team in scoring last season with a season average of 14.5 points per game and was also an All-Conference honorable mention selection. Beyer also led the team with 6.7 rebounds per game. Ryan, who started all 26 games for the Blugolds last year, looks to improve upon his team leading 3 assists per game. Both Ryan and Beyer will be key factors in the Blugold's success this season as the team looks to improve upon its overall record of 10-16 and Conference record of 3-13 from a year ago. The other two seniors on the team are Steven Hoelzel (Sr.-Kaukauna, WI) and Luke Meier (Sr.-Cross Plains, WI/Middleton). Hoelzel and Meier each averaged double digit minutes per game last season.
The other returning letter winners who hope to contribute this year are Dan Mullen (Jr.-St. Paul, MN/Tartan), Mark Tiefel (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel), Colin Boone (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial), Jordan Kappen (So.-Blair, WI/Blair-Taylor), Geoff Probst (So.-Moose Lake, MN), Jacob Schlub (So.-Catawba, WI/Phillips), and Chance Weisensel ( So.-Alamogordo, NM).
The new comers to the team this year include six freshmen and one transfer. Rashann Goodwin (Jr.-Minneapolis, MN/Holy Angels) transferred from Lake Region State, ND a division I junior college. In his time spent at Lake Region State, Goodwin was a team captain and earned the team's best defensive player award. The Freshmen on the team this year are Tommy Calhoun (Fr.-Chicago, IL/Nicholas Senn), Amadou Fofana (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West), Michael Mudgett (Fr.-Gilman, WI), Davone Robinson (Fr.-Chicago, IL/Nicholas Senn), Augie Saiz (Fr.-Baraboo, WI/Wisconsin Dells), and Ryan Shea (Fr.-Duluth, MN/East).
The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team will be in action tomorrow Wednesday, November 7, 2007 when they travel to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers in an exhibition game. The game will be played in the Kohl Center. The Blugolds open the conference season on Saturday, December 1 at UW-Stout.
