Soccer Wins 2-1 Over St. thomas

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team came out on top today, Senior Day, against St. Thomas (MN). After a scoreless first half and a 1-0 deficit early in the second, the Blugolds rallied back for two goals to win 2-1 at the Bollinger Fields.
The Blugolds are ranked 3rd in the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings (NSCAA/adidas) and ranked 1st in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) are now 7-0-0 against Minnesota schools this season.
Eau Claire, 14-1-2 overall came out shooting in the first half with 15 shots on goal. The Blugolds also had three corner kicks. St. Thomas 9-6-1 had one shot on goal and no corner kicks in the first half.
The Tommies got on the scoreboard first scoring 14:32 seconds into the second half at the 59:32 mark. Stephanie Paasch scored her fourth goal of the season for St. Thomas with the assist going to Allison True. The Tommies scored on their only corner kick of the game.
The Blugolds would answer quickly scoring their first goal of the game at the 63:49 mark. Jamie Schiesel (Fr.- Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) scored her second goal of the season with the assist going to Amy Smith (Jr.- Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) her ninth of the season. Smith shot and the ball went off the crossbar where Schiesel was able to put it in the net for the goal making the score 1-1.
At the 86:38 mark Liz Kooistra (Jr.- Lakeville, MN) made the score 2-1 scoring her seventh goal of the season. Kooistra's goal would eventually become the game winner.
The Blugolds had 13 shots in the second half giving them 28 on the game, 12 of which were on goal. Eau Claire had two corner kicks in the second half giving them five on the game. The Tommies had four shots and one corner kick which they scored their only goal of the game on.
Liz Weirick (Sr.- Kenosha, WI/Tremper) was in net for the Blugolds; she faced one shot on net and had one save. Weirick allowed one goal in the game.
Jana Huebner (Sr.- Mendota Heights, MN/St. Croix Lutheran), Abby Ofstedahl (Sr.- Apple Valley, MN/Eastview), Kristi Olson (Sr.- Minnetonka, MN), Anna Talbot (Sr.- Apple Valley, MN/Eastview), and Weirick were honored today for Senior Day at the Bollinger Fields.
The Blugolds will face UW-River Falls in their season finale at the Bollinger Fields at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. This will be the final contest for the Blugolds before the WIAC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. location to be announced.
