Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Swimming & Diving Fall For First Time this Season Posted: Friday, October 19, 2007 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. ?The men's and women's swimming and diving teams suffered their first defeats of the year today with losses to Division II Minnesota State University ?Mankato. The Mavericks took a 156-87 dual meet for the men's teams while the Maverick women won 164-79. The men's divers put on a show, taking the top three spots in both events. In the three-meter, Bryan Dykstra (Jr.-Racine/Horlick), Kenny Ritt (So.-Racine/Horlick) and Carl Serum (Fr.-Eau Claire/North) grabbed those places with scores of 251.50, 228.15, and 222.85. They took the same exact spots in the one-meter, putting up marks of 285.30, 261.55 and 200.60. The swimmers had many competitors in the No. 2 spot. Ben Macalalad (Fr.-Wausau/East) took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle on a 10:28.96 race. Brett Olsen (So.-New Berlin/West Allis Hale) and his 23.07 50-yard freestyle placed second. The 56.32 time Brian Jordan (Jr.-Madison/West) had in the 100-yard butterfly also took second-place honors. The relay team of Olsen, Duane Mateski (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial), Sampson Simeon (Fr.-Madison/East), and Patrick Finley (Jr.-Waunakee) clocked in at 1:31.77 for the 200-yard freestyle and took the runner-up spot. The women found themselves in first or second several times tonight, with Angie Bakula (Fr.-Appleton/West) winning two events. She took the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 11:07.40. She also was first in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:25.95 time. In diving, Sarah Myers (Sr.-Eau Claire/North) won the three-meter with 229.15 points. Amanda Kroger (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) and her 2:03.81 effort in the 200-yard freestyle came in second. In the 50 freestyle, Megan Lindner (Fr.-Muskego) grabbed second in 26.09. Mari Bodensteiner (So.-Red Wing, MN) completed the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.12, also good for second. The 200-yard medley relay squad of Bodensteiner, Emily Diehl (Sr.-Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie), Melissa Kleist (So.-Eau Claire/North) and Ann Grossklaus (So.-Wausau/West) swam a 1:56.72 second-place performance. The 200 freestyle team that included Bakula, Megan Finley (Fr-Waunakee), Kleist and Lindner finished in 1:44.77 for second. The Blugolds will hit the road for first time this year when they go to Stevens Point on Oct. 27. They will face UW-Stevens Point and St. Cloud State (MN) while there. - PH - |
