Sobotta Takes First Place Honors; St. thomas Wins

EAU CLAIRE - For the second year in a row, UW-Eau Claire women's golfer Meghan Sobotta took first place, while the University of St. Thomas took the team title at the UW-Eau Claire Fall Invite, which concluded at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire Sunday.

St. Thomas, who was only three shots behind the leader after day one, shot a 328 the today, for a total of 654 strokes. All of St. Thomas' golfer finished 28th or better, with their top four golfers finishing tied for third, tied for sixth and two others tied for twelfth. Laura Heck led the Tommies with a score of 160, shooting a 78 the first day and an 82 the second day.

Rounding out the top three team finishers, UW-Stevens Point took second with a two-day total of 665. Gustavus Adolphus, who finished second in the NCAA Division III National Championship last season, took third place. They finished with 667 strokes. The Blugolds finished the invite tied for sixth place with Macalester with a 698.

Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, WI) ended the invite shooting an 84 at Wild Ridge. Combined with her score of 74 on the first day at Mill Run Golf Course, her total score of 158 was good enough for first place. Carleton's Katrina Wood finished with a two-day total of 159, shooting a 76 on the first day and an 83 on the second day, good enough for second place. In third place, there was a two-way tie with St. Thomas' Heck and Macalester's Jordan Matheson. They finished the invite with 160 strokes.

Other Blugold golfers at the invite were Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, WI/Osseo-Fairchild), who finished 36th with 175 strokes, Brianna Obermueller (So.-River Falls, WI), who tied for 42nd with a 178, Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, WI), who tied for 68th with a score of 189, and Jordan Damrow (Fr.-Oconomowoc, WI) who tied for 86th with 198 strokes.

The Blugolds will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Waverly, IA for the Wartburg Invitational.
