EAU CLAIRE - Maria Iaizzo (Jr. -White Bear Lake, MN) tallied her first hat trick as a Blugold, leading the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Elmhurst College here today at the Bollinger Fields.

The win brings the Blugolds back to .500 with a 3-3 overall record. The Bluejays fall to 5-2 for the season.

Iaizzo scored the first three goals for Eau Claire, all coming within four minutes of one another. Her first goal came at the 13:45 mark, when she took a pass from Emily Meisinger (So.-Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy) and shot it past Bluejay goalkeeper Amy Lefurgy to give Eau Claire a 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later Iaizzo and the Blugolds struck again, as Becky Westbrock (So.-North St. Paul, MN) fed a pass to Iaizzo who scored her second goal of the day and put Elmhurst in a 2-0 hole.

Iaizzo finished off the hat trick at the 17:37 mark, taking a drop pass from Marcia Foltz (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) and giving Eau Claire a 3-0 lead. Meisinger tallied an unassisted goal in the 78th minute of the match to ice the game.

The Blugolds limited Elmhurst to one shot in the 90-minute match and held off eight Bluejay corner kicks. Eau Claire tallied 17 shots on goal in the victory.

The Blugolds will look for back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Monday, when they host Luther College. The match will be the second of a four-match home stand and is set to kick off at 4:00 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields.
