Posted: Wednesday, September 22, 2004
NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team battled strong but fell St. Olaf 1-0 here today at Rolf Mellby Field.
The Blugolds and Oles played a scoreless first half with Eau Claire outshooting St. Olaf 5-4. Three of the four Ole shots were on goal while only one of the five Blugold shots was on goal.
St. Olaf got on the board early in the second half when Lindsay Ruisch scored the game's only goal at the 50:59 mark. The Blugolds managed to get five shots off in the second stanza but weren't able to find the back of the net.
Goalie Annie Scharenbroich (So.-White Bear Lake, MN/South) played all 90 minutes in goal making three saves. Eau Claire outshot St. Olaf for the game 10-9 but that wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
The loss drops the Blugolds to 2-4 overall and 1-3 against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.
Eau Claire will be in action next when they host Elmhurst University Friday at the Bollinger Fields. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
