EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team overcame a five-stroke deficit in day two of the Blugold Spring Invitational to place first out of five teams today.

In the end the Blugolds shot a +70 654 score. UW-Stevens Point climbed from fourth to second on a 658 tally. St. Thomas (MN) took third with a 666 score. Wartburg College (IA) dropped from first to fourth and finished with 670 strokes. St. Mary's (MN) finished in fifth on an 815 effort. St. Thomas is ranked fifth while the Blugolds are ranked sixth. Wartburg sits seventh in the rankings while Stevens Point is ninth.

Holly Noble from St. Thomas golfed a five-over 151 for medalist honors. The 6,018-yard Wild Ridge Golf Course is a par-73. Karla Leon from Macalester College (MN) and Jennifer Stork from Buena Vista University (IA) had the best rounds in day two, those being one-over 74s. Both schools just sent individuals to compete and not full teams.

Meghan Sobotta (Jr.-Arcadia) and Jessica Thompson (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) both shots 80s on both days of the invite to finish with 160 scores. That placed them in a tie for fourth.

Kate Borman (Fr.-Kenosha/Bradford) had a 170 tally for the invite and finished in 13th. Torie Ives (Fr.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) and Bri Obermueller (Fr.-River Falls) tied for 14th on 171s. Ives shot an 81 today, third-best on the team behind the 80s. Borman had the fourth-best day for Eau Claire with an 86.

This is the first time Eau Claire has had its spring meet since 2001. The team only has the Division III National Championships left. They will take place May 8-11 at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
