Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At St. John's Invite

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team opened up the 2004-05 season with a sixth place finish at the St. John's Fall Golf Invitational concluded here today at Grey Stone Golf Club.
Derek Pirkl (Jr.-Stoughton) had a strong start to the year with a 74 on the final day to finish 6-over for the tournament to take third place individually.
Mason Milner (Fr.-Onalaska) had a good showing in his first tournament as a Blugold shaving nine strokes off his opening round with a 77 today to finish 19-over for the tournament and in a tie for 30th. Grant Lissick (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) equaled Milner going 19-over for the tournament as well.
Aaron Olson (Sr.-Chetek) took six strokes off his opening round with a 79 today to finish tied for 34th while Mike Greer (So.-White Bear Lake, MN) equaled yesterday's score of 83 to finish tied for 39th.
Defending Division III champion Gustavus Adolphus took first overall combining yesterday's 305 with a 304 today to win by ten strokes. Gustavus' Clayton Johnson finished first individually going 3-over for the tournament.
The Blugolds will compete next when they host the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Tournament Sunday and Monday at the Eau Claire Country Club.
