Blugold & Warhawk Football Both Nationally Ranked
Posted: Monday, September 20, 2004
With the release of the new weekly polls in NCAA Division III football, this Saturday's match up at Carson Park between UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater will pit two teams both ranked in the top 25.
The Blugolds, unranked in the preseason, made a name for themselves with their opening week victory over defending national champion St. John's. Eau Claire is currently ranked ninth in the latest Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette and are 13th in the latest D3football.com Top 25 rankings. The Blugolds are coming off a bye week and are 2-0 on the young season, with the victory over St. John's and a 28-7 win over Illinois Wesleyan.
The Warhawks had received votes all season long but finally cracked into the top 25 last week with a 48-24 win over Lakeland. Whitewater is ranked 21st according to D3football.com and 20th in Don Hansen's Football Gazette. The Warhawks carry a 3-0 record into play this weekend.
The battle between ranked teams in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference can be seen Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Carson Park.
