Thu, Jun 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Defeats Babson & Illinois Wesleyan Posted: Monday, March 19, 2007 ORLANDO, FL - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won its first two matches of their spring break trip today defeating Babson (MA) 6-3 and Illinois Wesleyan 8-1 here today. Against Babson the Blugolds won four of six singles matches led by Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) at No. 2 singles. Carlson lost the first set than came back to win the final two in defeating Kali Hogan 6-7 (2), 6-3, 10-4. Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) defeated Jamie Burke at No. 4 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Brenna McCormick (Fr.-Greendale) won her match at No. 5 singles beating Liz Sheerin 6-1, 6-1 and Erin Welch (Fr.-Tomah) won her match by default at No. 6 singles. The Blugolds beat the Beavers in two of three doubles matches with the team of Carlson and McCormick taking out Burke/Hogan at No. 2 doubles 8-4. The tandem of Courtney Lynne (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Katie Brugh (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) won their match at No. 3 doubles by default. In their second dual match against Illinois Wesleyan the Blugolds took five of six singles matches against the Titans, all in straight sets. Carlson defeated Sandy Tobik at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4 followed by Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) beating Sarah Rusch at No. 3 singles 6-2, 7-6 (3). McCormick continued her winning ways at No. 4 singles taking out Colleen McShane 6-2, 6-0. Welch moved up to No. 5 singles and beat Cate Hunter 6-1, 6-0. Brugh stepped into the No. 6 singles slot and defeated Katie Heancy 6-1, 6-3. The Blugolds won all three doubles matches as Geissler and Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson) got things rolling with a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles over Heim/Rusch. Carlson and McCormick won their second match of the day defeating Tobik/Hunter 8-2. At No. 3 doubles Deprey and Lynne completed the doubles sweep beating McShane/Main 8-0. Eau Claire will take off Tuesday and return to the court on Thursday when they face Calvin (MI) and Trinity (CT). Action is set to begin at 8:00 and 11:00 A.M., respectively.
