Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Nick Peterson Wins WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award Posted: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 UW-Eau Claire senior Nick Peterson (Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul) has been named the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete for men's swimming and diving, Commissioner Gary Karner has announced. Peterson is a biology major with a minor in pre-professional health and owns a 3.61 grade point average. He contributed 42 points to the Blugolds' third-place team finish in the WIAC championships this past weekend. He captured fifth in the 400-yard individual medley and a sixth in the 200-yard IM. He also swam on the Blugolds' third-place 800-yard freestyle relay team and contributed points with a 10th place in the 200 backstroke. He is the oldest of three brothers on the Blugold swim team, joining freshman Joe and sophomore Bill. He becomes the eighth Blugold to win the league's swimming and diving scholar-athlete honor, joining Steve Hollman (1986 & 1987), John Friedrichs (1990), Randy Mortenson (1992), Bill Underwood (1993), Greg Murray (1994), Matt Welch (1995) and Matt Oglesby (2002). The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger who served as commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference from July, 1971 through July, 1993. In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in their final year of competition and have competed for a minimum of two years. |
