Please include a source of proof (newspaper, yearbook, etc.) to support your claim. ![]() Mon, Feb 17, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey Falls To Saints In Overtime Posted: Friday, January 26, 2007 DULUTH, MN - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fought toe-to-toe with St. Scholastica (MN) for sixty minutes before falling to the Saints in overtime 5-4 here tonight at Mars Lakeview Arena. The win improves the Saints to 11-7-2 for the season and 4-4-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The Blugolds fall to 8-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the NCHA. The Blugolds have gone to overtime in both games against the Saints this season as their first meeting ended in a 2-2 tie on December 2 at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds are 0-1-2 in overtime games this season. After a scoreless first period both teams went on a scoring spree in the second period combining for six goals. The Blugolds put the puck between the pipes first when Dave Coleman (Sr.-Whitby, ONT/Leo J. Austin) scored a power play goal at 18:45 assisted by Sean Garrity (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) and Greg Petersen (So.-Maple Grove, MN/Totino-Grace) for the early 1-0 lead. After the Saints tied the game 1-1 the Blugold power play scored again when Andrew Johnson (So.-Andover, MN/Anoka) hit the back of the net at 12:43 assisted by Jesse Vesel (So.-Hibbing, MN) and Kyle Garner (Sr.-Sun Prairie) helping the Blugolds regain the lead at 2-1. Petersen would answer the Saints' second goal of the night with an even strength goal assisted by Johnson at 7:49 of the second period to once again give the Blugolds a one-goal lead at 3-2. The Saints scored their third even strength goal of the period to tie the game at 3-3 entering the second intermission. The second period featured six goals on just 20 combined shots between the two teams. The Blugolds went 2-for-3 on the power play while the Saints went 0-for-1 on their lone power play. At 14:23 of the third period Coleman scored his second power play goal of the night assisted by Dan Fina (So.-Fontana/Glenbard South, IL) and Mark Stockdale (Fr.-Brantford, ONT) for a 4-3 Blugold lead. The Saints answered with an even strength goal at 3:03 of the third period to push the game into overtime where Jordan Baird scored his second goal of the game at 1:35 in the extra session giving the Saints a come-from-behind victory. Ryan Mensing (So.-Langley, BC/Walnut Grove CC) made 26 saves on the evening. In a relatively penalty-free game the Blugolds where whistled for two penalties for four minutes while the Saints were called on five penalties for 10 minutes. The Blugolds made the most of their power play opportunities scoring on three-of-five power plays including a two-for-three performance in the second period. The Blugolds will stay on the shoreline of Lake Superior as they will face seventh-ranked UW-Superior at Wessman Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. |
