The Blugolds, who split a pair of 1-goal decisions on their road trip to Minnesota this weekend, are now 8-7-2 for the season. St. Olaf, which beat UW-Stevens Point, 3-1, Friday night, fell to 4-9-2 overall with the loss to the 'Golds. Sean Garrity (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) put the Blugolds on the board with a score just 2:19 into the contest. The Oles knotted the score with a power play goal by Ben Umhoefer at the 12:53 mark. The game remained tied for almost two full periods until sophomore Ben Hendrick (Andover, MN/Anoka) scored the game winner for the Blugolds, unassisted with just 9:31 left in the game. Freshman Tyler Brigl (Eagan, MN), who notched a shutout in his last start Jan. 5 against Concordia, picked up the win in nets for the Blugolds as he stopped 25 of 26 St. Olaf shots. The Oles had seven man-advantage situations in the contest. The Blugolds were outshot 26-19 for the game and failed to convert in five power play situations. The Blugolds return to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association wars next Friday when they host nationally-ranked UW-Stout at the Hobbs Ice Center. The game has been designated as Youth Night which allows two youths to be admitted free with each paid adult. The first time the teams met this year, Stout scored two late goals to take a 2-1 triumph over second-year coach Luke Strand's Blugolds. - TP - |
