EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team scored a season-high nine goals on its way to defeating Concordia-Moorhead (MN) tonight 9-0 at the Hobbs Ice Center.

The nine goals are the most scored in a game by the Blugolds since they defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 9-0 on November 29, 2003. Eau Claire has scored nine goals before against Concordia-Moorhead when it won 9-3 over the Cobbers back in 2000. The Blugolds did score 10 goals against MSOE back in October of 1999.

The Blugolds get their first win since the day after Thanksgiving and now have a record of 6-6-2. The Cobbers fall to a record of 6-5-0.

Eau Claire got the scoring going early, just 57 seconds into the contest when Jesse Vesel (So.-Hibbing, MN) scored an even-handed goal to make the score 1-0. Andrew Johnson (So.-Andover, MN/Anoka) had the assist on the goal. With 12:38 remaining in the first period, Eau Claire scored again when Ben Hendrick (So.-Andover, MN/Anoka) put one in the net to make the score 2-0. Mike Schneider (So.-Owatonna, MN) assisted the goal.

Then with just under five minutes to play in the period Andrew Johnson scored what would be the first of many goals for him on the night with power play goal to make the score 3-0. Greg Petersen (So.-Maple Grove, MN/Totino-Grace) and Brooks Lockwood (Sr.-Hudson, WI) assisted on the goal. A 1:50 later the Blugolds scored their final goal of the first period as Johnson scored again to make the score 4-0. Vesel had the assist on the goal.

Eau Claire out-shot the Concordia 15-7 in the first period.

The Blugolds went up 5-0 with 13:16 to play in the second period when Brooks Lockwood scored an unassisted goal. Andrew Johnson then got the hat trick with less than eight minutes to play in the second period on a short-handed goal that made the score 6-0. Lockwood and Nicholas Kuqali (Fr.-Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) both had assists on the goal. It was the second hat trick this season for the Blugolds as Sean Garrity (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) got a hat trick earlier this season against Hamline University (MN).

Eau Claire kept it going in the third period as Greg Petersen scored three minutes in when the Blugolds had a two-man advantage to make the score 7-0. Kyle Garner (Sr.-Sun Prairie, WI) had the assist. Johnson then scored his fourth goal of the contest with a little less than three minutes to play. Steve Dus (Sr.-Onalaska, WI) and Jesse Vesel had the assists. The four goals ties a team record for goals scored in a game by an individual. The last Blugold to score four goals in a game was Cam Cook against UW-Stout in 1997. Dave Coleman (Whitby, ONT/Leo J. Austin) then scored the final goal of the game with 1:27 left to make the final score 9-0. Ben Hendrick and Evan Byers (So.-Eagan, MN) assisted on the goal.

Blugold goaltender Tyler Brigl (Fr.-Eagan, MN) picked up the shutout victory, saving 23 shots. Both teams combined for 20 penalties.

The Blugolds will host St. John's University (MN) tomorrow night at the Hobbs Ice Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
