EAU CLAIRE - Down a goal going into the final period, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team rallied to tie what ended up being a 2-2 game versus St. Scholastica (MN).

The Blugolds were and remain tied in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) standings with the Saints. Eau Claire is 1-3-1 in NCHA play now with a 5-4-1 record. The Saints are 1-2-1 in the NCHA and have a 6-3-1 record overall.

Eau Claire started the scoring 16:24 into the game off a Greg Petersen (So.-Maple Grove, MN/Totino-Grace) shot. Sean Garrity (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) assisted on the powerplay strike. Both teams had nine shots in the period.

The Saints poured on the offense in the second with 14 shots compared to five for Eau Claire. St. Scholastica tied the game up less than a minute into the period on an evenhanded goal. With just over five minutes gone by in the second the Saints took the lead on a powerplay.

The Blugolds came into the last period down by a score but wasted no time. Just 47 seconds into the final period Garrity found net on a powerplay. Petersen and Kyle Garner (Sr.-Sun Prairie) had the assists. The two teams skated to a tie and forced overtime. In the extra period Eau Claire had three shots while St. Scholastica had one, but neither got the puck past the goalie and the game ended 2-2.

Eau Claire was outshot 30-to-19. Ryan Mensing (So.-Langley, BC/Walnut Grove SS) collected 28 saves on the night. The Blugolds went 2-of-8 in advantages while the Saints went 1-of-5. St. Scholastica was nabbed for nine penalties while Eau Claire had five.
