APPLETON - Both the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams took first out of five schools today at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational in Boldt Natatorium.

The men won with 971 points, beating UW-Whitewater's 844. The three schools that followed were Oshkosh with 765, Lawrence University with 353 and Ripon College with 216.

The women claimed the top spot with 989 points. Lawrence took second at 753 while third went to Whitewater's 730.5. Oshkosh had 648 and Ripon College collected 302.5 to round out the squads.

The men had two triple-winners during the invite. Cale Schmidt-Jackson (Sr.-Duluth, MN/East) took the 200 backstroke on a 2:07.20 time, the 400 IM in 4:35.03 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.69. Patrick Finley (So.-Waunakee) won the 100 freestyle in 50.25, the 200 freestyle on a 1:50.04 swim, and the 500 freestyle on a 4:59.57 effort.

There were a few more Blugold winners. Peter Schultz (So.-Oakdale, MN/North) took the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.54. Kris Metje (Fr.-Cape Girardeau, MO/Central) swam a 17:34.13 1650 freestyle.

The ?A? relay team had a 7:30.32 800 freestyle relay. They also won the 200 freestyle race in 1:31.57.

The top women's swimmer was Jaclyn Blank (Fr.-Byron, MN). She won the 1650 freestyle in 18:44.60 and the 500 freestyle with a 5:31.08 race.

The top Blugold diver was Sarah Myers (Jr.-Eau Claire/North), who took the 1-meter event with a score of 370.00.

Ann Grossklaus (Fr.-Wausau/West) swam a 2:19.15 200 IM to take the top spot in that race.

The ?A? squad in relays had an 8:17.06 victory in the 800 freestyle race. In the 200 freestyle relay, Eau Claire won in 1:42.53. They also won the 400 freestyle with a 3:47.10 showing.

Both the men and women are now 9-4 overall.

Eau Claire's next event will be a dual meet versus UW-La Crosse next Saturday in La Crosse. It will be the last meet of 2006.
