Posted: Tuesday, November 21, 2006
DECORAH, IA - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team lost 23-11 tonight in a dual meet against fourth-ranked Luther College (IA) but it did have four individual winners.
Eau Claire is 4-2 overall and 4-2 in dual meets. Luther College, which has five of its wrestlers in the top eight for his weight class in the country, improves to 2-0.
All of Eau Claire's points came on decisions. At 133 pounds, Andy Miller (So.-Appleton/North) won his decision 3-2 over Zach Bartlett. Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA), at 157 pounds, won 8-3 over Ben Kissling. Josiah Miller (Jr.-Lake Tomahawk/Lakeland Union) had an 8-2 decision in the 174 pound weight class over Greg Meirick. The final decision was a David Heser (So.-Tomah) 5-2 victory over Luke Ties at 197 pounds. The 11 score resulted from the 12 points due to the wins minus one point for unsportsmanlike behavior on the coach.
None of the defeated Luther foes were rated in the top eight for the country. The only competing ranked Norseman was Nate Van Dyke at 165 pounds. The No. 8 man in the country won a major decision 14-2 over Jon Erickson (So.-Jim Falls/Cornell).
The Blugolds are off until December. The next match is December 6th at UW-Whitewater, currently ranked 24th in the nation.
