EAU CLAIRE - Both the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams took third behind UW-Stevens Point and UW-La Crosse today at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Relays in the McPhee Pool.

The women scored 110 points while the Pointers and Eagles scored 162 and 134 respectively. The other scores were UW-Whitewater with 70, UW-Oshkosh with 50, and UW-River Falls with 32.

The men had 116 points behind the Pointer 152 and the Eagle 128. The teams followed each other in the exact same order as in the women's standings. The Warhawks scored 82, the Titans managed 58, and the Falcons collected 28.

The majority of the events saw La Crosse or Stevens Point taking first and second with the Blugolds taking third.

The men's diving team did take first in two events, though. Kenny Ritt (Fr.-Racine/Horlick) and Donnie Vollmer (So.-Superior) scored 230.05 in the 1-meter event and 234.95 on the 3-meter boards.

The men's swimmers also notched a pair of runner-up spots. Brian Schwartz (Sr.-Bemidji, MN), Brett Olsen (Fr.-New Berlin/West Allis Hale), Alex Colborn (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Century), and Kris Metje (Fr.-Cape Girardeau, MO/Central) swam an 8:15.83 850-yard freestyle crescendo relay while Metje, Brian Jordan (Jr.-Madison/West), and Pat Finley (So.-Waunakee) had a 15:03.93 time in the 1500-yard freestyle race. They missed first by 0.24 seconds.

A few women tandems took second, as well. Mari Bodensteiner (Fr.-Red Wing, MN), Emily Diehl (Jr.-Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie), Alissa Condra (Sr.-Rhinelander), and Ann Grossklaus (Fr.-Wausau/West) had a 1:55.99 200-yard medley relay. Ane Klomps (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo), Grossklaus, Jackie Blank (Fr.-Byron, MN), and Amanda Kroger (Jr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) swam the 850-yard freestyle crescendo event in 8:55.35. On the boards Laurel Van Soest (Jr.-Mound, MN/Mound-Westonka) and Sarah Myers (Jr.-Eau Claire/North) scored a 202.15 in the 3-meter dives for second.

The Eau Claire men and women both finished third in last year's WIAC Relays. No WIAC Relays records were broken during the event.

The Blugolds will now have a couple weeks off before heading to the Titan Invite, hosted by Oshkosh. The invite will take place December 1st and December 2nd.
