Ten lettermen, five transfers and six first-year players make up the 21-player 2006-07 UW-Eau Claire men's basketball roster, announced today by veteran head coach Terry Gibbons.

The Blugolds return all five starters from last year's squad which finished 12-14 overall but Gibbons, beginning his 12th season, is pleased with the fact that he picked up size, experience and quickness in the off season.

The returning starters include senior Matt Riley and juniors Jared Bardon, Zack Ryan, Dan Beyer and Dan Ottney.

The other returning letterwinners are junior Dean Furton, sophomore Troy Holewinski, junior Luke Meier, sophomore Tony Riley and senior Jared Supalla.

The transfers include 6-9, 235-pound junior Steve Hoelzel from UW-Milwaukee, 6-6, 230-pound junior Geoff Probst from the University of North Dakota, 6-6, 205-pound sophomore Dan Mullen from Valparaiso, 6-3 Jordan Kappen from Edgewood College and 6-4 Andy Ajax from UW-Stout.

Two of the first-year players are former Eau Claire prep standouts. They include Colin Boone from Memorial and Mark Tiefel from Immanuel Lutheran. Two true freshmen, James Bowman and Chance Weisensel, have arrived from Alamogordo, New Mexico. The other true freshmen are Derek Bavery from Cedarburg and Jacob Schlub from Phillips.

Mullen is rejoining former high school teammate Zack Ryan, both of whom prepped at St. Paul Tartan. Matt and Tony Riley are brothers from Cadott.

Based on athletic eligibility, Gibbons will have two seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen.

Gibbons' trio of assistant coaches are beginning their third year together. They include Matt Siverling, Keith Muchow and Bill Macozek.

The Blugolds will go on display for the public in the annual Blue & Gold intrasquad game, Wednesday, November 1 at 8 p.m.
