Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Soccer Running On All Cylinders In WIAC Win Posted: Wednesday, October 4, 2006 SUPERIOR - Both the offense and defense came through for the UW-Eau Claire soccer team today in its 5-0 victory over UW-Superior. The eighth-ranked Blugolds sit on top of the conference with an 11-1-0 record and a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) mark of 5-0-0. Superior is now 5-6-0 and 0-5-0, respectively. Amy Smith (So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) kicked off the scoring about 27 minutes into the contest with Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) assisting. Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) doubled the score two minutes later with her team-leading ninth goal. She also leads in points with 22. Allison Smith (So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) provided the setup pass. The second half saw more Blugold highlights with Allison Smith again getting the scoring going, this time to Emily Meisinger (Sr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy). About four minutes later around 78:00 Shannon Conlin (Fr.-Reedsburg) found net off of a Kristi Olson (So.-Minnetonka, MN) feed to make it 4-0. Jessica Millard (So.-Madison/La Follette) took a dish from Allison Muer (So.-Minneapolis, MN/South) and finalized it with her first goal of the year around the 87th minute. In the end Eau Claire outhshot the Yellowjackets 20-3. The scoring spree was second only to six against UW-Whitewater for the season. It was the ninth shutout of the year, with last year's 14 being the record. The 12 shutout wins in 1998 is the record for that category. The next Blugold action occurs this weekend with home games against a UW-Oshkosh team that is second in the conference on Saturday and then non-conference foe Augsburg College (MN) on Sunday. The start time for each is 2:00 p.m. - PH - |
