HUDSON - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team placed fourth today out of 15 teams with a score of 346 (+58) at the rain-shortened Division III Midwest Classic at the Troy Burne Golf Club.
After rain washed out the first round of play yesterday, it all came down to a one-day, 18-hole format. Gustavus Adolphus (MN) won the event with a score of 334 (+46). Finishing just one shot off in second was Wartburg College (IA) with a score of 335 (+47). In third place was the University of St. Thomas (MN) with a score of 342 (+54). Finishing in fifth place, behind the Blugolds was Luther College (IA) with a score of 359 (+71).
The teams competed at the Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson. The course was designed by PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman. It is a par-72 course and had a length of 5,807 yards.
Jesse Thompson (Sr.-Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) was the highest Blugold finisher with a score of 84 (+12), which was good enough for a seventh place tie. Kate Borman (Fr.-Kenosha, WI/Bradford) was the next highest Blugold with a score of 86 (+14). Borman finished tied for 16th place.
Finishing in a tie for 19th place was Torie Ives (Fr.-Osseo, WI/Osseo-Fairchild), who shot an 87 (+15). Meghan Sobotta (Jr.-Arcadia, WI) finished in a tie for 22nd place after she posted a score of 89 (+17). Kim Huber (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) had a score of 91 (19), which was good enough for a 27th place tie.
Next up for the Blugolds will be the 2006 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Golf Championships held at Windwood in Watertown. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. next Saturday.
