Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Competes At Ita Regional Championships Posted: Friday, September 22, 2006 DECORAH, IA - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team competed in the first day of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Championships today hosted by Luther College. Due to rainy conditions, the site of the event was changed to the St. Mary's Tennis Center in Winona, MN, the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Club in Owatonna, MN, where the singles and doubles ITA brackets will be playing. In the 64-player singles bracket, the top 32 players at the St. Mary's Tennis Center and the bottom 32 players played at the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Club. The ITA Midwest Region Championships is one of 61 championships that have been played all over the country over the past three weeks. The championships feature the top Division III schools in the region. There are 19 teams competing in this year's tournament. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Oct. 12-15, Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. The Blugolds had three players competing in the 64-player singles bracket: Sarah Riordan (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North), Gina Dahl (Fr.-Fort Atkinson, WI), and Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View). Riordan was the only player to advance to the second round as she won by default over Amanda Wenzell of Macalester College (MN). However, Riordan was defeated in the second round by Jessie Farrar of UW-Whitewater 6-1, 6-2. Those who are not competing at the ITA Championships are competing at the Luther Fall Classic at Luther College. Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) won her first two matches today to advance to the quarterfinals at the Fall Classic. Geissler defeated Hannah Goldberg of Carleton College (MN) 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. She then defeated Katherine Smith of UW-Whitewater in the second round 6-0, 6-2. The Wilson/ITA Midwest Region Championships and the Luther Fall Classic continues tomorrow. If it rains all of the action will be played at the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Club.
