Thu, Jun 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Volleyball Finishes Second At Augsburg Invite Posted: Saturday, September 9, 2006 MINNEAPOLIS - The sixth-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season today when they lost 3-0 in the championship match of the Augsburg Invitational against No.10 University of St. Thomas. To begin the day the Blugolds defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 30-12, 30-12, and 30-19. Jessica Groh (Sr.-Eau Claire/North) led the Blugolds in kills with seven. Emily Haese (So.-Mishicot, WI) led the Blugolds in assists with 15 and Carly Freiberg (Sr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) added six service aces for Eau Claire. The Blugolds had a .322 attack percentage, while Wisconsin Lutheran had a -.027 attack percentage. The win gave the Blugolds a 7-0 overall record. The loss dropped Wisconsin Lutheran to 3-5. In the championship match, it was the anticipated showdown between the sixth-ranked Blugolds and 10th-ranked Tommies. The Tommies controlled much of the match as they defeated the Blugolds 30-26, 30-27, and 30-22. The Tommies set the tome in the first game as they ended with a .516 attack percentage. The Blugolds tried to respond, but could only muster an attack percentage of .171. Once again Jessica Groh led the Blugolds in kills with 12. Jodi Dunbar (Sr.-Platteville, WI) was second on the team with nine. Carly Freiberg led the team in assists with 38. The loss dropped the Blugolds to 7-1 overall, while the Tommies improved to 8-0. The Tommies dropped just one game in the four matches at the invitational. The Blugolds led the invite in with 4.25 service aces per game. Carly Freiberg had the second-most service aces individually. Jessica Groh led all-individuals with 1.55 blocks per game. Groh and Shanna Berger (Sr.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) were named to the 10-member All-Tournament Team. Up next, the Blugolds will compete in the University of Chicago Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
