Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf Finishes Fifth At Nationals Posted: Friday, May 12, 2006 HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team finished in fifth place out of 10 teams today with a score of 1357 (+189) at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships held at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The Blugolds remained in fifth throughout the whole tournament and shot a final round 341 (+49). This is the third straight year that the Blugolds finished in the top five and the fifth place finish is the second highest in school history. Methodist College won the championship for the ninth consecutive time with a score of 1240 (+72). Charlotte Williams of Methodist won the individual title with a score of 308 (+16). Gustavus Adolphus finished in second place with a score of 1316 (+148). DePauw University finished in third one stroke behind second with a score of 1317 (+149). Fourth place went to Wartburg College with a score of 1326 (+158). The top Blugold finisher was Jesse Thompson (Jr.-Plover, WI/SPASH) with an overall score of 323 (+31), which was good enough for 11th place. Thompson had the best round for the Blugolds in three of the four rounds of the tournament. The next highest Blugold finisher was Maggie Loney (Sr.-River Falls, WI) with a score of 331 (+39). Loney shot a first round 78 (+5) for her best round of the tournament and finished in 20th place. Loney ends her Blugold career finishing in the top 20 individually at Nationals in all four years. Meghan Sobotta (So.-Arcadia, WI) tied for 35th place overall with a score of 345 (+53). Sobotta's final round was her best round of the tournament as she shot an 83 (+10). Kim Huber (So.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) finished in 50th place overall with a score of 358 (+66) and Becky Washleski (Fr.-Cambridge, MN/Cambridge-Isanti) finished in 58th place overall with a score of 398 (+106). The Blugolds end with a 30-9 spring record and a 56-14 overall record. - JR - |
