OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team remained in third place and claimed one more individual champion on the second and final day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships.

The host team, UW-Oshkosh, stayed ahead of the pack and finished with 231 points. Last year's champion, UW-La Crosse, scored 195. Eau Claire kept its three spot with 118 points on the meet. UW-Platteville had 81 and UW-River Falls tallied 78. UW-Stevens Point placed sixth with 70. UW-Whitewater posted 46 points and UW-Stout followed with 30. UW-Superior came in last on a nine point display.

Liz Faller (Jr.-Marinette) claimed the 100-meter hurdle championship today. She ran a 14.68 race for the win. Second best was 14.79 by Oshkosh's Sarah Schettle. Faller got to the finals by racing the fastest 100-meter hurdle race the WIAC had seen this season with a blazing 14.46 prelim. Last year she finished fifth in the event at the outdoor championships. It was the team's only championship today.

The Eau Claire field team came through today in the discus throw. Brooke Schmidt (Sr.-Rice Lake/Stanley-Boyd) was the runner-up with 40.21 meters (131?11"). Paula Crossfield (Jr.-Madison/East) then took fourth on 38.22 meters (125?5"). Schmidt was second in the conference for the discus throw while Crossfield was third before today. Crossfield, who also took fifth in yesterday's hammer throw, placed seventh in the discus at last year's WIAC Outdoor Championships.

With a 3:55.95 time, the 4x400-meter relay team grabbed second in their event.

Erin Kokta (Sr.-Brookfield/East) was the third-place finisher in today's triple jump. She leapt a season-best 11.72 meters (38?51/2") for the achievement. Kokta came into the event with the conference's second best mark. Kokta has had a highly successful weekend. Yesterday she won the long jump with a 5.77 meter (18?111/4") leap.

Molly Warner (So.-Mosinee) and Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst) placed first and fourth, respectively, in yesterday's 10,000-meter run. The two stuck even closer today in the 5000-meter run. Warner claimed third in 17:45.60 while Ovanin finished fourth in a season-best 18:04.61. The pair was ranked two-three coming into today for the conference, with Warner having the faster time.

Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) claimed third place in the 400-meter dash this afternoon. She did so on a season-best 56.53. She entered the meet with the conference's best time.

The 4x100-meter relay team also placed third with a 48.99 race.

The team has two more meets before the national championships. They will start off next Friday at North Central College in Naperville, IL.
