Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf Selected To Compete In NCAA Championships Posted: Monday, May 1, 2006 INDIANAPOLIS - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships, which will be held May 9-12 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL it was announced today by the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee. This will mark the sixth year in a row that the Blugolds will compete at the championships. The committee selected 10 teams, two teams from each of the five regions, and 10 individuals for the championships. Illinois Wesleyan joins the Blugolds in Region 3. In each of the last six years, the Blugolds have improved their finish from the previous year, including their highest finish in school history, tying for third place last year. The Blugolds won the WIAC Championships in fall for the second year in a row. Maggie Loney (Sr.-River Falls, WI) finished fourth individually at the NCAA Championships last year, which was second best in school history. Loney has finished as the top medallist three times this season, including her second consecutive WIAC Championship title. She is the only person to accomplish that feat. Meghan Sobotta (So.-Arcadia, WI) is coming off a top medallist finish at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. This was Sobotta's second top medallist finish of the season. Loney, Sobotta, and Jesse Thompson (Jr.-Plover, WI/SPASH) were all first team All-WIAC selections with Loney being named the conference Golfer of the Year The Championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. The tournament consists of 72 holes of play over four days of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score. The championships will get underway on Tuesday, May 9th at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. - JR - |
