Men's Tennis Competes At The Ymca Tournament

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis competed at the 8th annual Eau Claire Adult Open held at the Eau Claire YMCA Tennis Center over the weekend.
In singles action, the Blugolds' Tim Eisele (So.-Apple Valley, MN) advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Karl Monson 7-6(6), 6-4. After a first round bye, Eisele won his second round match in three sets: 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. He would then win his quarterfinal match 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.
The only other Blugold singles player to pick up a win was Jake Znidarsich (So.-La Crosse, WI/Central) who won his first round match 6-2, 6-2. He then went on to lose his second round match in a tough three-setter.
In doubles action, the Blugolds also had one team advance to the semifinals. The team of Aaron Nordenskjold (Jr.-Red Wing, MN) and Jake Znidarsich won its first round match 6-1, 6-1, and then went on to win its quarterfinal match 6-4, 6-3. Nordenskjold and Znidarsich would lose in the semis to the eventual champions 6-1, 6-1.
Two other Blugold doubles teams won their first round match before losing in the quarterfinals. The team of Erik Brandner (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) and Kevin Fawcett (Fr.-Madison, WI/Verona) won its first round match 6-3, 6-2. Also, the team of Brandon Buth (So.-Appleton, WI/West) and Brett Gressick (So.-De Pere, WI) won its first round match 6-2, 6-1.
Next, the Blugolds will go down to Hilton Head, SC for spring break and compete in six dual meets in four days. The team will begin with two meets next Monday with the first meet against Hope College beginning at 8 a.m. and the second meet against Asbury College beginning at 4 p.m.
