Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Softball Takes Two From Gustavus Posted: Sunday, March 12, 2006 ROSEMOUNT, MN - The UW-Eau Claire softball team concluded its action from the Rosemount Irish Sports Dome today by sweeping a doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus, winning game one, 9-2, and game two, 7-4. The two victories improve the 16th-ranked Blugolds to 4-2 overall, while Gustavus falls to 0-4. In game one, the Blugolds used a five-run second inning and 13 hits in the game to propel them to a 9-2 victory. Mallory McKinney (Jr.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) was the star of the game offensively and defensively. Offensively, McKinney went 4-for-5 with three RBI's and scored a run. Defensively, McKinney pitched her second complete game of the season, giving up just two runs and striking out three. Other Blugolds contributing to the game one win were Rachel Paulus (Jr.-Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) who went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Tessa Pecha (So.-Eau Claire, WI/North) and Steph Salter (Jr.-Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest) each drove in two runs apiece and Casey Leisgang (So.-Seymour, WI) went 1-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. In game two, the Blugolds broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the second inning scoring three runs and would not relinquish the lead as they went on to win 7-4. Mallory McKinney and Andrea Neuville (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/West) each had solo homers with Neuville also picking up the win on the mound, going four and a third innings and striking out two. Bri Sturm (Fr.-Zumbrota, MN/Zumbrota-Mazeppa) would then come in and finish out the game allowing just two hits and striking out two. Sturm also drove in a run at the plate. Steph Salter went 1-for-3 with two RBI's and Rachel Paulus went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Blugolds in game two. Starting next Sunday the Blugolds will spend a week down in Florida at the Rebel Spring Games as they will play a total of 10 games in five days.
