Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Severson Returns To Nationals Posted: Tuesday, March 7, 2006 EAU CLAIRE ?UW-Eau Claire swimmer Cori Severson (Sr. -Brainerd, MN) looks to cap off a fantastic season this Thursday and Saturday when she travels to the NCAA Division III Nationals in Minneapolis, MN to compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Severson's most astounding accomplishment this season was when she broke the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record in the 100-yard freestyle. Not only that, she did it when it counted most at the WIAC Championships. She swam a 51.74 race, beating the old record of 52.43 that was set by UW-La Crosse's Krista Melvin in 2004. Needless to say, it also became the new Blugold record with the old one being 52.63 that Sara Shimanski set in 1995. Severson's best time in the 50-yard freestyle is 24.27, which she also swam at the WIAC Championships, though it was in preliminaries. She took second in the finals in 24.31. Her 24.73 is good for fourth best in the conference. Severson has experience in the nationals. She swam in the 50-yard freestyle event last year at nationals, grabbing 10th in 24.17. The trials and finals for 50-yard event are Thursday while the trials and finals for the 100-yard freestyle take place Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The whole event begins Thursday at 11:00 a.m. |
