STEVENS POINT - After the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, the UW-Eau Claire men's track team is tied for sixth out of eight teams.

UW-La Crosse is in the lead at 67 while the runner-up UW-Oshkosh squad totaled 40. UW-Whitewater has 38 points for third and UW-Platteville is in fourth with 18. UW-River Falls collected 16 points on the day for fifth and Eau Claire tied UW-Stevens Point for sixth with both garnering six points after day one.

Many Blugolds cracked the top ten in their events, with the best Eau Claire performance being a seventh place finish.

Josh Boehm (So.-Mosinee) accomplished that seventh place feat in the 55-meter dash part of the heptathlon. He did so in 6.98.

In the long jump, Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek) finished eighth with a leap of 6.62 meters (21?83/4"). Adam Nagel (Fr.-Beaver Dam) also performed in the long jump, though his event was part of the heptathlon. He went 5.88 meters (19?31/2") for ninth. Nagel went on to grab a tie for eighth in the high jump part of the heptathlon. He did so with a jump of 1.76 meters (5?91/4"), which is Nagel's season best.

With a weight throw performance of 16.49 meters (54?11/4"), Matt Smith (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) took eighth. The display was Smith's best and Eau Claire's best this season for the weight throw.

Micah Hernandez (Sr.-Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) took 10th in the 5000-meter run with a 15:33.05 race. It is his personal best this season.

The WIAC Championships conclude tomorrow. The first events begin around 9:00 a.m.
