EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's track team will compete against the conference in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday in Stevens Point.

The team has had a successful indoor season. Only seven teams have finished ahead of them in the six meets that the Blugolds sent the majority of the team. This includes the four first-place finishes that occurred in the Blugold Open, the Warren Bowlus Open, the Border Battle and the Blue Devil Open.

Eau Claire looks to do well in the 200-meter dash, an event Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield/Central) took third in last year in 22.63. This year he holds the sixth best WIAC time at 22.73. Chris Kupfer (Fr.-Germantown) is right on his tail with the seventh best time of 22.77 in the conference while Bryan Tschudy (Fr.-New Richmond) holds the ninth best time with 22.88. Kupfer also looks for success in the 55-meter dash, where he holds the sixth best conference mark at 6.56.

Joey Veriga (Jr.-Cudahy) stands at 10th in the conference for the 800-meter run with a 1:57.14 display.

Another Blugold who excelled in last year's championships is Adam Koger (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial). He was the 400-meter runner-up in 49.70. This year's time of 50.70 is good for 10th in the WIAC.

Matt Crosby (Fr.-Glenwood City) brings competition to the meet in the form of sixth-best WIAC 55-meter hurdles finish. His mark is 7.91. Aliota has a 7.96 race on the year for eight best in the 55-meter hurdle event.

The 4x200-meter relay team accomplished a 1:30.67 effort for the second-best time out of all WIAC teams. The 4x400-meter relay team meanwhile has the fourth best time. It is 3:22.36.

The Blugolds look for more victories in the field, as well. Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek) had a 6.64 meter (21?91/2") mark in the long jump for eighth best in the conference.

Two Eau Claire athletes look for Blugold triumph in the triple jump where Eric Eigenfeld (Jr.-DeForest) holds the ninth best leap at 13.43 meters (44?3/4") and Grant Haugan (Fr.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) holds the 10th best at 13.36 meters (43?10") in the WIAC.

The 16.09 meter (52?91/2") weight throw of Ryan Brohmer (Jr.-La Crosse/Logan) is ninth best for the conference.

Logan Berg (Fr.-Augusta/Osseo-Fairchild) is 10th in the conference with a 1.89 meter (6?21/4") mark in the high jump.

In the shot put event, Brent Tice (Sr.-Colfax) accomplished the 10th best throw on the year at 15.03 meters (49?33/4").

The Blugolds have finished sixth at the WIAC Indoor Championships the past two years.

This year's events begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
