Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Sikora Wins Second Championship As Wrestling Places Fifth Posted: Sunday, February 19, 2006 EAU CLAIRE - Derek Sikora (Sr. -Neillsville, WI), at 165 pounds, won his second career conference championship and the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team finished fifth with 72 points at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) wrestling championships held today in the McPhee Physical Education Center. After receiving a first round bye, Sikora ranked first at 165 pounds in Division III, pinned Whitewater's Jake D?Acquisto at 3:43 to advance to the finals. In the finals, he faced Scott Dorn of La Crosse and defeated him by decision 8-3 to win his second career conference championship. Sikora finishes with two conference titles and two runner-ups in his four years. Justin Mc Auly (Jr.-Clintonville, WI) at 197 pounds, finished second for the Blugolds in his weight class. Mc Auly defeated his first round opponent by decision 10-4. He then upset the No.1 seed, Mitch Szwet of Stevens Point, by decision 8-4 in the semifinals. Mc Auly ended up losing in the finals to Jim Swanson of La Crosse by decision 5-3 to finish second. Two Blugolds finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Andy Miller (Fr.-Appleton, WI/North) at 133 pounds, lost to Jared Kern of Stevens Point in the third place match by pin fall and Nick Hoeft (So.-Merrill, WI) at heavyweight, also finished fourth as he lost by a 5-1 decision to Ryan Rozek of Platteville. Sean Zais (Fr.-Glidden, WI) at 125 pounds and Tony D'Antuono (Sr.-Waukesha, WI/South) at 149 pounds, each placed fifth for the Blugolds. D'Antuono defeated Ben VanZeeland of Oshkosh by technical fall 18-2 in the fifth place match. Placing sixth for the Blugolds were: Josh Kasuboski (Fr.-Wautoma, WI) at 157 pounds, Lance Valiquette (Jr.-Auburn, WA) at 174 pounds, and Joey Miller (So.-Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union) at 184 pounds. Fifth-ranked UW-La Crosse won the championship for the ninth-straight time with 159 points. 18th-ranked UW-Stevens Point finished second with 119 points. UW-Whitewater finished third with 84 points, followed by UW-Platteville with 78 points, the Blugolds with 72 points, UW-Oshkosh with 60 points, and Lawrence with 58 points. Platteville's Zach Chambers at 141 pounds was named the Wrestler of the Meet. Nate Skaar of La Crosse was named Coach of the Year and Stevens Point's Mike Hayes, at heavyweight, won the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
