Oshkosh Shoots Past Men's Basketball
Posted: Saturday, February 11, 2006
OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team could not match the shooting statistics of UW-Oshkosh today as the Blugolds fell 81-63 at the Kolf Sports Center.
The loss drops the Blugolds to 11-12 overall and 3-11 in the conference. With the win, the Titans improve to 16-7 overall and 9-5 in conference action.
Just like in the women's contest the men fell behind early. The Titans scored the first seven points of the ball game and were up 14-4 with 14:22 to go in the first half. The Titan-lead would stay in double-digits for the most part of the first half. Oshkosh would build its lead to as much as 17 with 1:50 remaining in the half.
The Titans would go into halftime with a 35-19 advantage. The Titans shot 59% from the field in the half, while the Blugolds shot just 37%.
It didn't get much better for the Blugolds in second half, as the Titans started the half with 19-4 run to extend their lead to 54-23 with 14:29 to go. The Blugolds would try to get back into it over the next six minutes as they outscored the Titans over that time span 25-7 to cut the lead down to 13. However, that's as close as the Blugolds would get as the Titans would go onto win 81-63.
The Titans ended up shooting an astounding 64% for the game, while the Blugolds ended up at 49%. Both teams shot well from beyond the arc, as the Blugolds were 7-of-16 and the Titans were 8-of-15.
Jared Bardon (So.-DeForest, WI) led the Blugolds in scoring with 12 points. Zack Ryan (So.-Lake Elmo, MN/Tartan) added 11 and Matt Riley (Jr.-Cadott, WI) had 10. Jim Capelle led all scorers with 20 points for the Titans.
The Blugolds have not won at Oshkosh since the 1994-95 season.
Up next the Blugolds will play the final game of four-game road trip, as the team will travel to face UW-Superior on Wednesday night. The tip-off is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.Eau Claire-Oshkosh Box Score
