Green Knights Conquer Men's Hockey
Posted: Friday, February 3, 2006
DE PERE - In a game that saw 13 St. Norbert advantages, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell 6-0 tonight to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) leading Green Knights of St. Norbert.
The team now stands at 0-10-1 in the NCHA and 2-17-3 overall. St. Norbert retains its top spot in the NCHA as it improves to 8-1-2 and 18-2-2 in the respective marks. The Green Knights are also second on the USCHO.com Division III poll.
Eau Claire gave the St. Norbert squad some help as the team committed 12 penalties for 27 minutes. The result was St. Norbert going 4 for 13 in power plays. The Blugolds went 0 for 3 in theirs.
Despite the penalties, Eau Claire was in the game until the final period. Down 2-0, the Blugolds then saw the Green Knights pull away with four power-play goals in the third to seal it. About half the Eau Claire infractions also occurred in the same period.
St. Norbert outshot Eau Claire 42-15, with only two of those Blugold shots coming in the third. Steffan Braunlich (Sr.-Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) turned away 36 shots.
Eau Claire is now 3-24-2 all-time versus this particular opponent. The last time the Blugolds defeated the Green Knights was in 1995. However, the team did tie St. Norbert earlier this year in a tight 2-2 November competition.
Next up for the Blugolds is Lake Forest College tomorrow in Illinois. A 7:30 p.m. start time is listed for this NCHA contest.
