EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team held UW-Platteville to its lowest point total in just over six years as the Blugolds went onto win tonight 49-37.

The victory improves the Blugolds record to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in conference. The loss drops the Pioneers to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference. The last time the Pioneers were held under 40 points in a game was when UW-Oshkosh held them to 39 points on January 19, 2000.

The first half action was very close between the two teams. Even though the Blugolds had the lead for the entire half, their biggest lead was only six; which came with 3:24 to play in half.

The Pioneers would cut it to one after hitting a three-pointer just as the shot clock expired with just under a minute to play in the half. Heather Witt (Fr.-Kendall, WI/Royall) would then hit a fast break lay-up at the end of the half to give the Blugolds a 21-18 halftime lead.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half as neither team shot over 32%. The Blugolds out-rebounded the Pioneers in the half 20-15.

The Blugolds would then jump out on the Pioneers at the beginning of the second half as UWEC went on a 15-0 run to start the half. The Pioneers first basket came six minutes into the half.

The Blugolds would outscore the Pioneers 19-5 for the first 10 minutes of the half for their biggest lead of the game of 17. The Pioneers would only get as close as 12 and that was the final score as the Blugolds prevailed 49-37.

The Blugolds held the Pioneers to just 25% shooting in the game. The Blugolds outscored the Pioneers in the paint 24-14.

Leading all scorers with 13 points was Liz Van Drasek (Sr.-Albertville, MN/St. Michael-Albertville). Amanda Zenner (So.-Medford, WI) added 11 points for the Blugolds. Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI) had a double-double on the night with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Next, the Blugolds will hit the road to face UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night. The action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
