Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Ties Powerhouse Superior Posted: Friday, January 27, 2006 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team played in an even-sided affair tonight to notch a 1-1 tie against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets, who were ranked seventh in the USCHO.com Division III poll. The Blugolds showed they could play with Superior earlier this season after forcing a December 9th game into overtime before losing 3-2 to the Yellowjackets, though Eau Claire was beat 5-1 the next day by the same opponent. This game Eau Claire performed as it did the first time against the Yellowjackets, who are second in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) behind UW-Stevens Point, as the teams matched each other stat for stat. Defense ruled supreme in this 1-1 contest, as each team got 21 shots on goal. Goalies Rikki Nespor for Superior and Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) for Eau Claire each put together 20 stops. Only one period saw scoring in the evening, that being the second. The Blugolds were the first to find the net in that second period. Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) made an evenhanded goal at the 7:33 mark with no assists recorded on the play. Superior tied it up 15:13 into the second on a power-play strike. Defense kept both teams at bay for the rest of the game, including the overtime where Superior got two shots off on goal while the Blugolds managed none. Each team had four advantages, and the Yellowjackets converted one. The Blugolds are now 0-6-3 in the NCHA and 5-10-3 overall. Superior is 7-2-2 in NCHA and 14-2-2 on the season. Eau Claire matches up against another NCHA foe tomorrow when it faces Finlandia. The game begins at 7:00 p.m. in Hobbs Ice Center. - PH - |
