Posted: Monday, January 23, 2006
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team will look for its fifth win in a row as it will host bitter rival UW-Stout Wednesday night in Zorn Arena.
The Blugolds will come into the contest with a 9-9 overall record and a 4-5 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record. The Blue Devils will come in with an overall record of 11-6 and a WIAC record of 6-3.
The Blue Devils defeated the Blugolds earlier this season by a score of 82-62. The Blue Devils led the whole way in that one.
The Blugolds are riding a four-game winning streak and have defeated their last three opponents by an average of 16 points.
Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI) will lead the Blugold attack as she is averaging 11.1 points per game. Ever since team-leading scorer Michelle Burns (So.-Eau Claire, WI/North) went down with an injury, Arciszewski has averaged 15.6 points per game.
Freshman Brittanni Hakanson (Fr.-Wheeler, WI/Boyceville) will also lead the way for the Blugolds as she is averaging just over 10 points per game this season. Rachel Becker (Sr.-Gilmanton, WI) has played very well the last two games as she has been near a triple-double in both of those games.
The Blugolds are third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting just under 47% from the field and are second in the conference from the free throw line, shooting 68.3%.
The Blue Devils are led in scoring this season by Kelsey Duoss, who is averaging 19.1 points per game, which is top in the conference. Duoss also leads the conference in rebounding as she is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils as a team lead the conference in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 17.29.
The Blugolds have lost four of the last five contests against the Blue Devils and are 39-20 all-time against Stout.
The action gets underway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Zorn Arena.
